The house of Raoul and Janneke was a great setting for the photography of the SKONNE carpets. Being an architect at Werkstatt, Raoul Vleugels built his own house ‘Oerhuis’ in the wooded Leende in the south of the Netherlands. Werkstatt has an intensive working process based around designing spaces with hand made scale models. By a ‘hands on’ type of modelling they try to search for a type of architecture which emphasizes the way they like things to be made: simple and elegant. Through their love for ‘making’ architecture they became fascinated with natural building materials. Those materials enable them to design sustainable architecture with the health and wellbeing of the user as the central theme.
